I’m giving a paper on cultural translation at the Cultural Translation in Popular Music Conference 12-13 April 2013. The conference is supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum and the Research Fund of the School of Journalism and Digital Communication, University of Central Lancashire.
I’ll be podcasting my paper on SoundCloud as part of project Transcast: Making Translating and Interpreting Research Public so more on that tomorrow!
Check out the lovely tribute to Jorge Luis Borges on Google today! What an inspiration for writers, thinkers and artists everywhere – he’s certainly provided me with plenty of food for thought on theatre translation and the uncanny ‘Borgesian doubleness’ that occurs when a play is translated from its language, culture and complex web of theatrical conventions and is produced on a totally new stage, maybe thousands of miles away and plays to an audience in a different language and speaking to different cultural concerns. Philosophical stuff, but really important to bear in mind!

Just came across this – oldie but goodie discussion on the visibility of the theatre translator.
